I live in Nashville. This means I often have to disappoint people when they ask if I’m a songwriter. Then, I have to explain what a “copywriter” does. And no. I still don’t write songs that they hear on the radio or down on Broadway. I do have hopes to write a jingle someday, and I’ll have to rethink my response entirely.
Explaining what I do to non-advertising people aside, I really love this industry. I’ve worked in agencies, on the corporate client-side, and have done the freelance hustle. I’ve worked across all different types of channels and mediums. And have been fortunate to meet some brilliant people along the way—even learned a thing or two or 10.
